A fresh and fruity Rosé Port to discover.
Rosé Port is one of the most exciting and modern styles of Port wine. Born in the Douro Valley, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, Rosé Port was created to attract a new generation of wine lovers looking for a fresher, lighter and more versatile fortified wine. Made from the same noble red grape varieties used in traditional Port — including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz — Rosé Port is vinified with minimal skin contact, resulting in its distinctive vibrant pink colour and fresh fruity character.
Like all Port wines, Rosé Port is a fortified wine produced in the Douro Valley. The grapes are harvested by hand from steep schist terraces and carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. The fermentation is brief, with minimal skin contact to extract colour without tannin, and is then interrupted by the addition of grape spirit. This process preserves the natural fruit sugars and gives Rosé Port its characteristic freshness, sweetness and strength. The result is a wine with a beautiful salmon-pink colour and an explosion of red fruit aromas.
Rosé Port is characterised by its vibrant and expressive fruit profile. On the nose, you will find fresh strawberry, raspberry, cherry and red currant, often with hints of rose petal and citrus. On the palate, Rosé Port is fresh, round and pleasantly sweet, with a long and fruity finish. Its lower tannin content compared to Ruby Port makes it immediately approachable and easy to enjoy, even for those new to Port wine.
Rosé Port is best served well chilled, between 8°C and 10°C. The most popular way to enjoy Rosé Port is over ice in a large wine glass or tumbler, served with tonic water, a slice of orange and fresh mint — the perfect Rosé Porto Tónico. This refreshing summer drink has become increasingly popular at festivals, terraces and restaurants across Europe. Rosé Port also works beautifully as a base for cocktails, adding a fruity and sweet fortified character to spritzers, sangrias and creative mixed drinks.
The fresh and fruity character of Rosé Port makes it an incredibly versatile wine at the table. It pairs naturally with light summer dishes such as strawberry and rocket salads, fresh goat cheese, charcuterie boards and light tapas. Rosé Port is also an excellent companion to fruity desserts — try it alongside a raspberry tart, strawberry cheesecake or a simple bowl of fresh red berries with cream. For a surprising combination, serve Rosé Port with dark chocolate or a chocolate mousse, where the contrast between the wine's sweetness and the bitterness of the chocolate creates a truly memorable pairing.
